SERP Preview

A SERP preview is a mock-up of how Google may show your title, URL and description on the search results page (SERP). Use it to catch cut-off text before you publish.

The tool

Use this when the title and meta description are drafted. Look at the snippet the way a searcher would, on a laptop-width result.

Why it helps

Why you need a SERP Preview

You write titles in a CMS box. Searchers see a blue link, a green URL, and a two-line blurb. Those are different boxes.

Google may still rewrite the title or description. The preview is “how it may look if Google uses what you wrote,” not a guarantee.

Desktop and mobile cut at different widths. If the offer sits at the end of a long title, mobile will hide it first.

Preview the snippet. Then publish. Then check what Google actually showed.

When

When to use it

  • After you generate a title and a meta description.
  • When you change a URL path and want to see how it reads as breadcrumb-style text.
  • When two pages look the same in search and you need to tell them apart in the snippet.
  • As the last look before the page analyzer and publish.

How

How to use it

  1. 1Paste the title. Watch whether the keyword and the offer still show before a typical cut.
  2. 2Paste the display URL (https://acme.com/demo). Keep the path short and readable.
  3. 3Paste the meta description. Confirm the reason to click is in the first line.
  4. 4If the title is cut, shorten it in the SEO title generator. If the description is cut, move the why-click earlier.
  5. 5Do not treat this as a ranking score. It is a snippet check.

Example

Example: Google snippet for Acme /demo

Same page as the title and meta tools. Paid campaign google-in-demo-exact-2026q3 uses this URL. Organic should not look like a different product.

You put in

Title
Product Demo for Teams - Book in 30 Minutes | Acme
URL
https://acme.com/demo
Description
Book a 30-minute Acme product demo. Free to browse. No account needed. See how one campaign name works in Google Ads, the UTM, and your Monday report.

You get

acme.com › demo
Product Demo for Teams - Book in 30 Minutes | Acme
Book a 30-minute Acme product demo. Free to browse. No account needed. See how one campaign name works in Google Ads, the UTM, and your Monday report.

The title fits. The path /demo is clear. The description leads with the booking. If the title had been “Acme - Official Marketing Suite Homepage Product Demo Booking,” the offer would sit behind the cut.

Result

What this changes for you

You see the cut before Search Console does. You fix the title or description in the draft, not after the URL is live.

Common mistakes

  • Checking only desktop. Mentally shorten the title by a few words for mobile.
  • Using a tracking URL with UTMs as the display URL. Search shows the clean page URL, not the ad URL.
  • A title that looks fine in the CMS and is cut in the preview - then publishing anyway.
  • Treating the preview as “this is exactly what Google will show.” Google can rewrite. Write clearly anyway.

FAQ

SERP Preview FAQ

What is a SERP preview?

A SERP preview shows how your title, URL and meta description may look in Google search results. It helps you catch cut-off text before you publish.

Does a SERP preview show the exact Google result?

No. It is a close mock-up. Google may rewrite the title or description, and pixel width varies by device. Use it to write for the cut, not as a screenshot of live SERPs.

Why does Google rewrite my title in search results?

Often because the title is too long, stuffed, duplicated, or a weak match for the query. A clear 50–60 character title with the keyword near the front is less likely to be rewritten.

Should I include the full UTM URL in a SERP preview?

No. Organic results show the page URL. UTMs are for ads and email. Preview https://acme.com/demo, not the tagged campaign link.
