Internal Link Planner

An internal link is a link from one of your pages to another. Plan links from hub pages (helpful, broad pages) to the money page (the page you want to rank or convert) with a clear anchor - the clickable words.

The tool

Try it here

Use this when the money page is live and the hubs exist, but nothing points to it except the nav. Or when you are about to publish a cluster of posts with no links between them.

Why it helps

Why you need an Internal Link Planner

Google uses internal links to discover pages and to understand which URL is the main one for a topic. If nothing links to /demo, it is harder to treat it as important.

The anchor should describe the destination. “Click here” helps nobody. “Book a product demo” tells the searcher and the crawler where they are going.

Hubs earn trust by being useful. Then they pass that attention to the money page. Do not only link from the footer.

One honest in-body link beats a sidebar of leftovers.

When

When to use it

  • After keyword clustering: you know which URL owns the topic.
  • When a new money page launches (demo, pricing, tool) and older posts never mention it.
  • When you are pruning: too many links to random posts, too few to the page that pays.
  • Before you generate a sitemap. Linked pages are the ones you actually want crawled.

How

How to use it

  1. 1Name the money page URL. One primary destination per plan.
  2. 2List hub URLs that already rank or get traffic (guides, tools, category pages).
  3. 3Write one natural anchor per hub. Use the cluster’s main term or a close variant. Not the same exact phrase ten times if it reads like spam.
  4. 4Place the link in the body, near a relevant sentence, not only in a related-posts widget.
  5. 5Skip the money page linking to itself. Add a return link only when it helps the reader.

Example

Example: hubs pointing at Acme /demo

Money page: https://acme.com/demo (also used by google-in-demo-exact-2026q3). Hubs: the UTM guide and the Google Ads limits post.

You put in

Money page
https://acme.com/demo
Hub 1
https://acme.com/blog/utm-parameters-explained
Anchor 1
book a product demo
Hub 2
https://acme.com/blog/google-ads-character-limits
Anchor 2
see a 30-minute product demo

You get

From /blog/utm-parameters-explained - /demo
Anchor: book a product demo

From /blog/google-ads-character-limits - /demo
Anchor: see a 30-minute product demo

Two contextual links, two clear anchors. The reader who finished the UTM guide has a next step. Google sees /demo as the conversion URL for that topic, not another blog post.

Result

What this changes for you

People and Google can find the page you care about. Ranking and conversions stop depending on the homepage alone.

Common mistakes

  • Only linking from the homepage or the footer. Those links are weak context.
  • Anchor text that is “click here,” “read more,” or the raw URL with no description.
  • Twenty exact-match anchors of “product demo” from every post. It looks forced. Vary the wording. Keep it honest.
  • Linking two money pages to each other and never linking from the hubs. The hubs are the traffic.

FAQ

Internal Link Planner FAQ

What is internal linking in SEO?

Internal linking is linking from one page on your site to another. It helps people move through the site and helps Google find and understand your important URLs.

What is a hub page vs a money page?

A hub page is a useful, often broader page (a guide, a tool, a category). A money page is the URL you want to rank or convert (demo, pricing, product). Plan links from hubs to the money page.

What is good anchor text for internal links?

Words that describe the destination page. “Book a product demo” is better than “click here.” Keep it natural. Do not repeat the exact same phrase on every link.

How many internal links should a page have?

As many as help the reader. A few strong, in-content links to the money page beat a sidebar of 40 related posts. Link where the sentence already makes sense.
