Google Ads Description Checker
RSA descriptions (RSA = Google’s multi-headline search ad) cap at 90 characters, including spaces. You get four slots. Google needs two to serve. A 140-character paragraph from the landing page will not survive the auction.
The tool
Try it here
Use this after headlines pass. Descriptions carry the offer, the proof and the CTA when the headline is only 30 characters.
Why it helps
Why you need a Google Ads Description Checker
Headlines attract the eye. Descriptions finish the sentence. If the only proof is in a 120-character block, Google will chop the proof.
Four unique descriptions beat two that repeat the headline. Combinations need different endings: proof, limit, CTA, objection.
90 is not “about 90.” A 91-character line is over. Count here, then paste.
When
When to use it
- When headlines are locked and you still need the offer in a full sentence.
- Before pinning a description. A pin on an over-limit line is a blank.
- When legal needs a disclaimer in the ad - it has to fit in 90 or go on the landing page.
How
How to use it
- 1One description per line. Maximum four. Two is the serve minimum.
- 2Put the offer in the first 60 characters. People scan. The last 30 should still make sense if a combination looks cut off.
- 3Each line should stand alone. Do not write description 2 as “continuation of 1” - Google will not keep them together.
- 4Copy passing lines into Ads. Then write the landing H1 to match one of them, not a fifth idea.
Example
Example: four descriptions, one offer
Acme demo. Headlines already pass 30. Descriptions must name the 30-minute demo, free, no account, and the CTA.
You put in
- D1
- Book a 30-minute product demo. Free. No account to browse the tools. (72)
- D2
- One campaign name in Google Ads, Meta and the UTM. Reports roll up on Monday. (80)
- Over
- A long landing-page paragraph that explains the full product story and will not fit. (over 90)
You get
PASS (≤90) Book a 30-minute product demo. Free. No account to browse the tools. One campaign name in Google Ads, Meta and the UTM. Reports roll up on Monday. FAIL - cut or move to the page
The long paragraph belongs on /demo. The ad’s job is one sentence that survives 90 characters. D1 is the CTA line. D2 is the proof line. Write two more: objection and limit.
Result
What this changes for you
The Search snippet matches the landing page. You stop paying for a 90-character cut that removed the price, the date, or the verb.
Common mistakes
- Repeating the headline in the description. You already spent 30 characters on that.
- One 90-character legal block and three empty slots. Serve minimum is two - use four.
- A sentence that only works if description 1 and 2 show together. They will not.
- Keyword stuffing. RSA is not a meta description. Write for the person. Keep the keyword once if it is natural.
FAQ
Google Ads Description Checker FAQ
What is the Google Ads description character limit?
90 characters per RSA description, including spaces. Up to 4 descriptions. Google needs at least 2 to serve.
Can I use more than 90 characters if I pin a Google Ads description?
No. A pin does not raise the cap. Shorten the line or put the extra sentence on the landing page.
Should every Google Ads description include a CTA?
At least one should. The other three can be proof, limit, and objection. If all four are CTAs, you have no proof in the mix.
Do Google Ads display path fields count toward 90?
No. Path 1 and Path 2 are separate 15-character fields on the RSA. This tool is the 90-character description body only.
