Attribution Calculator
Attribution decides which channel gets the conversion. Last-click gives all credit to the last tagged touch. A simple 50/50 split shares two channels. Neither is “the truth.” They are models.
The tool
Try it here
Use this when Google and Meta both claim the same demo, or when you are about to cut a channel that only assists.
Why it helps
Why you need an Attribution Calculator
Last-click is easy and it favours the closer (often branded search). Assist channels look worse than they are.
A 50/50 split is a teaching tool, not GA4 data-driven attribution. Use it to sanity-check a cut.
UTMs have to exist or there is nothing to attribute. Direct / none is not a channel strategy.
When
When to use it
- Two platforms report more conversions than CRM.
- Before you zero a prospecting campaign that never gets last click.
- When the Monday sheet adds Google Ads + Meta + GA4 last-click as if they were extra customers.
How
How to use it
- 1Enter the conversion count (or value) and the two channels that touched it.
- 2Read last-click: 100% to the last channel.
- 3Read a 50/50 split: half each.
- 4Decide with CRM when the gap is large. Do not average three models into one KPI without a label.
Example
Example: Meta then Google on one demo
Someone saw meta-in-demo-retarget-2026q3, then converted on google-in-demo-exact-2026q3. CRM has 1 demo. Both ad accounts claim 1.
You put in
- Conversions
- 1 demo booked
- Last click
- Assist
- meta
You get
Last-click: Google 1, Meta 0 50/50: Google 0.5, Meta 0.5 Platform reports if both claim last click: 2 (over-count)
CRM is 1. Last-click gives Google the row. A split keeps Meta in the story. If you add both platforms’ “conversions” you get 2. That is the over-count. Fix UTMs so GA4 at least has both touches to model.
Result
What this changes for you
You see how credit moves. You stop a budget fight that is only a model fight.
Common mistakes
- Adding platform conversion columns together.
- Cutting view-through or assist with no other evidence.
- Comparing last-click Google to last-click Meta as if windows matched.
- No UTMs, then arguing about attribution.
FAQ
Attribution Calculator FAQ
What does an attribution calculator compare?
Last-click credit versus a simple 50/50 split across two channels. It shows how the same conversion can look like a win or a zero depending on the model.
Is an attribution calculator the same as GA4 data-driven?
No. This is a teaching split. GA4 data-driven uses your account’s paths. Use this when two platforms both claim the sale and you need a sanity check.
Why do I need UTMs for an attribution calculator?
Without tags, touches do not show up as campaigns. Last-click then looks like Direct. Build clean URLs first.
Should I budget from an attribution calculator 50/50?
Do not set bids from a toy split alone. Use it to avoid cutting an assist channel. Confirm with CRM and a named model in GA4.
